I thought I’d start my blog by telling you a little bit about the people behind Playfair Auto Centres Ltd starting with one of our company directors, Shaun Kehoe.
Shaun has always had a passion for cars, engines, mechanics – basically anything that can be fixed. Shaun started his career as an apprentice with Fletcher Motors on the outskirts of Leeds City Centre. Whilst working here he gained his NVQ level III through the Reg Vardy apprenticeship scheme. He spent 3 years training in their main workshop as well as attending residential placements at their training college in Nottingham. Shaun gained the respect of his tutors and other members of staff & quickly progressed through his apprenticeship. After qualifying he spent the next 13 years working both here & at their Leeds Ring Road site specialising in Citroens & other French brands of car however he was constantly updating his skills through Reg Vardy’s in house training programme & always worked for himself at home on a variety of makes of car.
In 2010 he took a big decision to leave Reg Vardy to travel round the world, this offered him the opportunity to experience different ways of life & other cultures (& develop a longing for a tut tut).
He will be the first to tell you that the time he spent working on a cattle farm in NSW, Australia was one of the happiest of his life. After spending all day mustering cattle on a quad he would spend all night tinkering with the farm motorbikes, quads, tractors and UTE’s until they were all back in full working order. This is where his dreams of starting his own garage started.
On his return from his travels in 2011 he took a position as a Vehicle Technician at Halfords, who coincidentally are next door to where Fletcher Motors used to be. Shaun used this time to expand his knowledge of other makes of cars & is now proficient in all makes / models of vehicle. He was also selected to train as an MOT tester which gave him invaluable knowledge of what is & isn’t needed to pass an MOT.
By 2013 the dream of opening his own garage was growing stronger & stronger, a chance conversation with one of our other directors, Simon Peach, lead to the two of them planning this adventure that we’re now on & starting Playfair Auto Centres Ltd.
